Summer is going by so fast! Only a little more than 3 weeks and everyone will be back in school! I am not ready - are you? While schedules are good for us - so is the relief from schedule, if only for a short time. Have you done some things you wanted to do this summer? I hope that Family Faith Challenge is one of the things you have done this summer. The one for this week is about sour words.
8. Sour Words
Give each family
member a super-sour gumball. Ask them to think about something they said
recently that they wish they could take back. As they remember those words,
have them chew the puckery gum and think about the sour effect of harsh words.
Challenge family members to see how many days they can each guard their mouths
and ensure that everything they say is true, kind, and necessary.
Scripture: "Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and
helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” Ephesians 4:29
Maybe this challenge will make the end of your summer sweeter for your family, I certainly plan to see if it will help my family this week!

Wow! What a week! VBS was such a fun, rewarding week and I am thankful for all the volunteers that made it possible. I hope everyone got to meet new people, learn more about our faith and have fun! I'd have to say that I love VBS week but am also always ready for a break when it is over!! I am going to take a week off but before I do here is the challenge I leave for us all.
This week's challenge is one that, like VBS, can be very rewarding but can also be difficult.
7. Mending Relationships
Ask each family member to each find something at home that
needs to be mended. Encourage them to talk about why the items need repair.
Then challenge each person to think about a relationship they need to mend and
why they need to mend it. Challenge them to go to that person during the week
and offer forgiveness, an apology, or whatever's needed to bring peace to that
relationship.
Scripture: "So if you are presenting a
sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has
something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be
reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.” Matthew
5:23-24
